Research Interests

My research is directed towards the application of computer control to chemical processes.

It covers three areas of expertise:

  • control theory
  • process dynamics and modelling,
  • and real- time computer applications.

All the research projects that I supervise include these three elements to a greater or
lesser extent; most projects involve industrial data in addition to simulated data, and
some projects involve direct application to full-scale units operated by one of the member
companies of the McMaster Advanced Control Consortium (MACC).

Specific areas of research:

  • multivariable control using object oriented expert systems
  • applications of neural networks and fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms
  • multrivariable process identification using closed loop data
