Research Projects
1. Mass Transfer and Process Dynamics
Means of increasing mass transfer rates, particularly in electrochemical
reactors,
are being explored. Studies on combined heat and mass transfer are being
used to
develop design correlations. Investigations into fluidized bed electrode
systems, and
into modelling time-dependent surface roughness in corrosion processes
in flow
systems are being pursued.
2. Thermodynamic and Transport Properties
The relationship between thermodynamic and transport coefficients in
non-ideal
systems is being explored. Calculations are proceeding on correlations
for
diffusivity and activity coefficient data for non-ideal liquid systems.
3. Radioactive Waste Management
Reviews of scientific and technical issues, trends and operations regarding
disposal of high level radioactive waste are being made. Performance assessment
of disposal systems, and related environmental assessment approaches are
being evaluated.
