Research Projects

1. Statistical Methods for Process Monitoring & Optimization

Massive amounts of process data are collected routinely by on-line process computers. This
area of research involves the utilization and development of multivariate statistical methods
capable of compressing the information in these data down into low dimensional spaces
where it can more readily be analysed and interpreted. Methods for gaining process understanding through the analysis of historical data, on-line monitoring of process
operating performance, process optimization using latent variable models, and the rapid development of new products are being developed. Much of this research is being performed in cooperation with companies in our Control Consortium.

2. Analysis of Biomedical Images (MRI)

This area expands the multivariate statistical technology we have developed to analyze process data to new biomedical MRI imaging problems for the detection and diagnosis of tumors, and cardiac problems, and to the use and interpretation of time varying functional MRI images of the brain for the diagnosis of medical problems such as depression and OCB.
